United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a $299,868 grant through the National Institute of Food and Agriculture Program to Mississippi Association of Cooperatives (MAC).
The project seeks to provide outreach to MAC farmers and coordinate the services of university extensions, Federal Drug Administration, consultants, and youth to provide classroom training in local communities that have not been addressed; develop a marketing plan for fruit and vegetable farmers involved with MAC; provide technical assistance to farmers on the process of becoming certified and assist farmers with the costs of certification; and develop a peer training program to reduce the need for external trainers and keep expertise in the community.
