WHAT: With the passage of H.C.R. 60 by the Mississippi House of Representatives and the State Senate declared Mississippi the home of Southern Soul Music. Mississippi stands unparalleled in its historical contribution to American music. Among these musical treasures, Southern Soul music shines brightly, capturing the hearts of an ever-expanding audience each day. Mississippi, through iconic institutions such as Malaco Records, established in 1967, along with numerous private studios, has nurtured a rich environment for Southern Soul music, bringing to the forefront many talented artists, DJ’s, promoters, and music lovers. The follows the previous declaration of the City of Jackson in 2019 by the Councilman, now Commissioner De’Keither A. Stamps.
