U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi) will be on hand today for the official opening of the Utica Institute Museum at Hinds Community College’s Utica Campus.

A Bolton native, Congressman Thompson is a 1965 graduate of Hinds Agricultural High School, which was on the Utica Campus until it closed in 2014.

The Utica Institute Museum grand opening and ribbon-cutting is at 2 p.m. Thursday. Because of expected rain, the program will be held in the Walter Washington Amphitheater with the ribbon-cutting, tour and reception across the street at the museum.

Members of the media are invited to the opening event. Please rsvp to Vergie Morgan at vergie.morgan@hindscc.edu or Cathy Hayden at cchayden@hindscc.edu.

Media parking is being provided on Union Drive. Campus Police will direct you.
